After many years of playing together in “Van Wassenaer Consort” we had the desire to develop our talents as a trio . The non-obvious combination of viola / vocals, trumpet, and harpsichord / organ creates a world full of surprises, interesting challenges and fascinating possibilities. With our inventiveness and compositional qualities we put known works in ‘a new jacket’, and just as well create original works.
Perles Sonores ensemble consists of: Dominica Eyckmans: viola / vocals, Pauline Schenck: harpsichord / organ and Robert de Boer: trumpet.
Our name “Perles Sonores” literally means “sound pearls”. In part it stems from our love for baroque music. The word baroque comes from the Portuguese word “Barocco”, meaning “irregularly shaped pearl”. But even older is the Italian word “Barocco”, meaning an “obstacle to the logic” in the Middle Ages. And that fits perfectly with our commitment to by no means reduce ourselves strictly to baroque, but use the seemingly quirky combination to explore and create new and unexpected sound pearls.
Perles Sonores will certainly pleasantly surprise the listener with its contrasting timbres and original programming.
Works by a.o. Bach, Handel and Corelli will linger in the ear as sound pearls. As will the world creations of 3 original pieces for this combination composed by Dominica Eyckmans:
– “Aus tiefer Not” (based on Bach’s ‘Aus tiefer Not ruf ich zu Dir’) for viola, voice, trumpet and harpsichord
– “Meine Ruh” (based on Bach’s ‘Bist Du bei mir’) for viola, voice and trumpet
– “I don’t pray, but I do…” for viola, trumpet and organ
