About PerlesSonores: After many years of making music together in the “Van Wassenaer Consort”, the desire arose to develop our solo capacities as a trio. The non-obvious combination of viola /voice, trumpet and harpsichord /organ creates a world full of surprises, interesting challenges and fascinating possibilities. Thanks to our inventiveness and compositional qualities, well-known works have been given a new look. Our name “Perles Sonores” literally means “sound pearls”. In part it derives from our predilection for baroque music. The word baroque comes from the Portuguese word “Barocco”, which means “irregularly shaped pearl”. But even older is the Italian word “Barocco”, which meant an “obstacle in logic” in the Middle Ages. And that fits in nicely with our drive not to restrict ourselves to merely baroque, but to use the unusual combination to discover and create new and unexpected sound pearls. PerlesSonores will certainly surprise and appeal the listener with our contrasting timbres and original programming. We perform works by, among others, Bach, Haendel and Eyckmans that definitely continue to resonate in the audiences ears as sound beads.
