Manto II (Scelsi) for viola solo.

April 6, 2020

Finally had the time to turn this old recording (2008) into a video.

Scelsi was inspired by “Manto”, a Sybil of Delphi, the oracle of the temple of Apollo, getting in trance due to the sulfury damps rising up out of the earth in the temple. “Manto II” is for viola solo, with scordatura-tuning ‘D (in stead of C)- A (in stead of G) – D – A’

Recorded at ‘Begijnhofkerk Sint-Truiden’ (Belgium) in 2008 by Daniel Léon (Igloo recordings) for Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles (Mons, Belgium)

Featured Artwork: excerpts from metallic pastels by Georgine van Assche.
