This composition– composed in 2017, based on ‘Bist Du bei Mir‘ BWV 508 by J.S. Bach, was initiated by dutch choir-conductor/organ-player/composer Jan van Dijk who asked me one day to ‘improvise on Bach’s Bist du bei Mir‘. The original plan was that it would be just me, viola. But since we were rehearsing a lot at that time with Perles Sonores and were searching for new repertoire, I decided to compose something for the trio.
So that became ‘Meine Ruh’, for viola, voice and trumpet, leading into the full Bach-choral where the organ joins us. Recorded at ‘Alte Kirche Welbergen’ (Germany) by Lucas Guitink — only audio, turned into a video using pictures of the recording-session and artwork by a.o. Georgine van Assche and Myriam Eykens.
Composition, voice & viola: Dominica Eyckmans (playing”Magnus” made by André Theunis, http://violons.eu/) Trumpet in Es : Robert de Boer, Chest Organ: Pauline Schenck (chest organ built by Theo Koele 2012)
